Let me take this opportunity to extend my thanks to those authors who found the way to prepare, submit and revise high-quality and timely review manuscripts submitted to Critical Reviews in Toxicology over the past two years. The publication of scientific papers including reviews such as those published in Critical Reviews in Toxicology is an important part of that complex, ongoing scientific endeavor. Development and use of the COVID-19 vaccines has also emphasized the need to move forward with scientific research, discovery and application whether it be in the academic, government or industrial sector. This stands out as one of the most remarkable scientific achievements in history. These disruptions have had a major impact on the trajectory of research and interdisciplinary teamwork.ĭespite this turmoil, we can take great satisfaction in the role science has played in bringing highly effective new vaccines for the COVID-19 disease to the citizens of the world. ![]() In-person interactions with fellow scientists that are a traditional part of scientific activity have been disrupted. Many experiments have been delayed and many more have had to be postponed indefinitely. The scientific community has faced many difficulties including the extended closure of many laboratories. This includes many who have had the COVID-19 infection or lost family members, colleagues, or other friends to COVID-19. The lives of everyone around the globe have been impacted. The past two years have been especially challenging for all of us as the world has faced the COVID-19 pandemic. ![]() Volume 51 (2021) adds another 44 papers to that noteworthy history. Publication of Volume 50 (2020) of Critical Reviews in Toxicology provided me the opportunity to congratulate Taylor & Francis, the authors and the critical reviewers of the more than 1000 papers in the journal during its first half-century of publication (McClellan 2020). ![]()
